Congorosa and its healing properties

Congorosa, and its healing properties also known as maitena, canlosa, espinheira santa and tutuwashi, is a member of the spice family, rich in the flavonoids tannins and triterpenes, which have antioxidant, healing and stomach-protective properties and are often used as home remedies to treat ulcers, heartburn, gastritis, acne and eczema.


Congo leaves are often used, from which the active principles are extracted. It is available in the form of teas, poultices, liquid extracts and capsules, and can be purchased in health food stores and herbalists.
